Book your place and join us for a one-of-a-kind evening celebrating exploration of some of the wildest places on earth. For our Edinburgh tour date we have two incredible speakers lined up, Jenny Tough and Greg Boswell:
Jenny Tough is currently aiming to run (solo and unsupported) across a mountain range on every continent. In 2016 she ran 900km across Kyrgyzstan from Karakol to Osh via the Tien Shan mountains. Last October she ran 860km across the Atlas Mountains, a wild experience of hostile landscapes, desert heat, Berber hospitality, and overwhelming police encounters…
Greg Boswell is one of Scotland’s most experienced young climbers. Having started climbing in 2004 at the age of 13 he has since then tried to excel in most aspects of the sport. Greg is now infamous for fighting off a grizzly bear whilst climbing in the Canadian Rockies with Nick Bullock.
As well as hearing from Jenny and Greg, we'll also be showing a selection of our favourite films from Kendal Mountain Festival 2017 – from flying above the Azores to freediving with Orcas, from skateboarding across Colarado to swimming in the wild ocean – you'll be taken on a journey you'll never forget!
Jenny Tough has travelled six continents, solo. She has cycled around Europe, paddled through the South American jungle, run marathons on four continents, hiked throughout Asia, trekked in Patagonia, dived with sharks, surfed in the North Sea, competed in numerous adventure races, and lived in five countries. She believes that everyone has the spirit of an explorer within them, and that adventures are constantly at our fingertips. While some of her adventures have been epic, year-long expeditions, others have been equally gruelling micro-adventures, only hours away from the comfort of home. Her goal in sharing her adventures is to inspire more individuals to go find their own adventure.
Jenny says, "It all started when I was 10... And my parents lead by the ultimate example by taking leave from their 9 to 5, and moving our family of four onto our small sailboat to explore the Caribbean and learn about far-flung cultures, not returning back to normality again until I was 12. What happened in that period undoubtedly sealed my fate as an explorer and adventurer."
Greg Boswell is one of Scotland’s most experienced young climbers. Having started climbing in 2004 at the age of 13 he has since then tried to excel in most aspects of the sport. He has travelled all over the world to pursue many different routes and conditions. Whilst gaining as much experience as possible, he has had the opportunity to meet some great people.
But his passion lies in Winter climbing and pushing his limits on hard Scottish Winter routes, and it is in this area that he has become renowned.
Since then he has gone on to be the first climber to onsight up to grade X/10 in the mountains and has put up some test piece routes as hard as grade XII/12. He has become well known for his punishing training regime and he belives this is what helps him to succeed around the globe on some of the worlds hardest mixed routes.
But to Greg climbing is much more than just chalking up the hard routes; it’s the people you meet along the way and the friends you make, the fun you have, it’s the adventure.
